Gregory Newman

Born in San Antonio, Texas, November 28, 1945, to Carl and Martha Newman. He was a part of the FFA program in high school which inspired him to attend A&M to study veterinary medicine for a few years. Greg enlisted in the Coast Guard in 1966, serving 1 year in Vietnam. The other 3 years were spent patrolling the coastline in various states, mostly in the Gulf. He was trained as an electrician’s mate which aided him in his work after his discharge.

Greg worked as a Communication Technician (senior) for 42 years combined with Western Electric, Southwestern Bell, and AT&T. He retired in 2012 to run his own business, which he operated with his wife, Lynne.

Greg was also an active member of Mina Masonic Lodge in Bastrop, Texas. He was raised to the sublime degree of a Master Mason on June 24th, 2009. He was the Worship Mason in 2012 and 2024 as well as the District Deputy Grand Master of the 46th Masonic District of Texas in 2019. Greg was also a life member of Mina Lodge and the Sam Houston Hall of Fame in Waco, Texas. He was a plural member of JW Giddings lodge No. 280. He was a member of Milano Lodge for several years.

Greg loved to fish, following collegiate sports, especially A&M Football, and horse racing. Greg was well-known for his robust storytelling, cigar smoking, poker playing, and witty personality.

He married Lynne on February 14, 1997, and they shared 4 children, Randy Newman, Keith Newman, Dr. Lori Forbus and Dustin Carroll.

He is survived by his wife; his 4 children; his brother Mark Newman; grandchildren Colton Newman and his wife Kenedi, MacKenzie Newman and their partner Kavan Landcaster, Nicholas Forbus, Alexa Forbus, Lacey Forbus, Chantrey Free, Lauren Carroll, Hillary Carroll Alam and her husband Matt, Madison Carroll, and Sophia Carroll; great-grandchildren Warren, Quincy, Everly, Avery, Marley, Westin, and Amelia; as well as multiple cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Greg had a servant’s heart and an affinity for helping those less fortunate. He found great meaning in lifting those who found themselves down on their luck. Greg acted as a mentor to many and guided them toward a life they could be proud of. He is leaving behind a legacy of community, family, and brotherhood.

Visitation will be held at Providence-Jones Family Funeral Home, 604 Hwy 95 North, Elgin, TX 78621, US, on September 5, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, followed by the Funeral Service at the same location from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm.
