James Malcolm Milburn

James Malcolm Milburn, 72, of Elgin, Texas, passed away on August 25, 2026.

A hardworking and dedicated man, James worked as a welder for Elgin Butler Brick, where he remained employed until his medical retirement. He took pride in his work and in providing for his family throughout his career.

James enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. He loved fishing and hunting, spending time outdoors whenever he could. He was a fan of westerns, enjoyed cooking, which he loved sharing with family and friends, and never passed up the opportunity for a lively discussion about politics. He will be remembered for his strong character, his independent spirit, and the love he had for his family.

James was a true man's man, a welder by trade who loved hunting, fishing, the outdoors, and the self-reliant way of life. He was tough, hardworking, and never afraid to speak his mind. Yet beneath that rugged exterior was a deeply compassionate man who cared about others. After spending nearly two decades battling serious health issues of his own, James understood firsthand the challenges that illness can bring to a person and their family. Through his decision to be an organ donor, he chose to give one final gift: the opportunity for others to live healthier, fuller lives. His family finds comfort in knowing that his generosity may help spare others from the struggles he faced and provide hope where it is needed most.

He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, James B. and Kim Milburn of Bastrop, Texas, Jacob B. and Katharine Milburn of Lyons, Texas, and his son Bradley Milburn of Livingston, Texas. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren, Hunter Milburn, Malcolm Milburn, Reagan Milburn, and Rosalie Milburn. James is also survived by his brothers, Billy Ray Milburn and Myles Wayne Milburn, as well as numerous relatives and friends who will miss him dearly.

James was preceded in death by his parents, Malcolm Ray Milburn and Billie Irene Milburn.

A Celebration of Life will be held on September 12, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Providence-Jones Family Funeral Home in Elgin, Texas.

He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

One Last Cast

The morning's calm, the water still,

The sun breaks softly on the hill.

He found his peace where rivers run,

In early light and setting sun.

The tales he told, the laughs he'd share,

Though now his boat has drifted on,

And earthly fishing days are gone,

We trust he's found a distant shore,

Where cares and pain will be no more.

And in the hearts of those he loved,

His spirit casts its line above,

A final gift, a lasting grace,

That time itself cannot erase.
