

Janie Hernandez Marciel, lovingly known as “Nana,” passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at the age of 78, surrounded by her loving family. She went home to be with our Lord after a hard-fought battle with cancer.
Janie was born on March 30, 1948, in Elgin to Jose Hernandez and Juanita Ramirez Hernandez (“Mama”). She shared many happy years with her longtime partner, Gaudencio Aguilar Guerrero, affectionately known as “Mencho” in Austin.
Janie was known for her kind heart, her strong faith, and the love she had for her family. She always put others before herself and was happiest when she was surrounded by the people she loved. She enjoyed shopping, fashion, and had a wonderful eye for jewelry. She also loved playing bingo and cooking meals for her family. More than anything, she treasured time with her children and all of her grandchildren.
She is survived by her children: Raymond Jr. and Stacy, Andy, Danny and Elisa, Cindy, Stacy, MikeY, Joey, Manuel, Henry and Yvette, and Christina and Chepe; 28 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jose and Juanita Hernandez, and her siblings Pete, Ralph, Connie, and Ophelia. Before her passing, Janie received the Sacraments of the Catholic Church, including Confession, Holy Communion, and the Anointing of the Sick.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., followed by the Holy Rosary from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Providence-Jones Family Funeral Home in Elgin, TX. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Elgin Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Janie was the heart of her family and was deeply loved by all who knew her. Her kindness, faith, and love will remain with us always. She will be greatly missed and forever remembered.
