July 24, 1938 – August 18, 2026
Margaret “Memo” Sanchez passed away peacefully on August 18, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.
Margaret was born on July 24, 1938, in McQueeney, Texas, to Luis and Dominga Cruz. She later made Elgin, Texas, her home where she remained for the rest of her life. At the age of 15, she married her soulmate, Patricio “Ticho” Sanchez, and together they raised four children: Patricio Jr., Ruben, Stevie, and Dawn.
Caring for others was at the heart of Margaret’s life. She worked for many years at the Nursing home, Travis State School, and Austin State School. She continued to care for local residents in her community.
Margaret held many titles—mom, sister, aunt, cousin, friend, and grandma—but none more special than Memo. To her family, being Memo meant love, comfort, laughter, and a lifetime of memories.
She was known for her baking and loved trying new recipes. Her peanut brittle, chocolate pixies, and potato chip cookies were family favorites. She loved telling jokes, laughing, and never hesitated to tell it like it was.
Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Patricio “Ticho” Sanchez; her parents, Luis and Dominga Cruz; her son, Stevie Sanchez; her sisters; and her grandson, lovingly known as Boo-Boo.
She leaves behind her sons, Patricio “Jr.” Sanchez and Ruben Sanchez, who lovingly cared for his mother for the past 30 years; her daughter, Dawn; her siblings, Patty Galivez, Josie Paiz, and Eddie Cruz. 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and loved ones.
Memo will be deeply missed, but her love, laughter, recipes, stories, and traditions will live on.
Her life was a blessing, her love was a gift, and her legacy will live on through every generation blessed to call her Mom, Grandma, and especially, Memo.
Rosary will be held August 24, 2026, at 7 at Providence Jones Funeral home.
Funeral Mass will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church August 25, 2026, at 11.
