RODNEY HIBBS
June 21, 1961 - July 25, 2026
If you knew Rodney Hibbs, then you already know a plain, ordinary obituary just wouldn't fit him!
Rodney was 65 years old, born June 21, 1961. He was one of those people you didn't just meet - you remembered. He had his own way of doing things, his own opinions, and he damn sure wasn't afraid to let you know exactly what was on his mind.
He could make you laugh, make you shake your head, and probably get you talked into something you knew damn well you shouldn't be doing.
But underneath all of that was a man with a big heart.
Rodney loved his people, and when he loved you, he loved you for real. He wasn't perfect, and he never needed anybody pretending that he was. He had good days and bad days, victories and struggles, and 65 years' worth of stories - some that will make us laugh until we cry and probably a few that are better left out of the obituary.
That's what made Rodney Rodney.
He enjoyed the things that made life worth living: good friends, good times, motorcycles, hot rods, loud engines, even louder music, and being surrounded by the people he cared about. Give Rodney the right people, a little laughter, and something with a motor, and there was a pretty good chance a story was about to be made.
Rodney was preceded in death by his father, Odeen Hibbs; his mother, Genevea Hibbs; and his brother, Terry Hibbs.
He leaves behind his sons, Royce Bennett and his wife, Linda Marie Bennett, and Sean Bennett and his wife, Brooklyn Bennett; his beloved grandbaby, Kodi Lynn Bennett; along with a lifetime's worth of friends and people who loved him. And last but not least, his very special little friend, Little Worm.
Sixty-five years brought motorcycles, hot rods, good times, bad decisions, hard times, laughter, arguments, stories, and friendships that became more like family somewhere along the way. You don't spend your life riding beside people without them becoming a part of who you are.
We could try to list everybody Rodney cared about, but Rodney had too many people in his life for that.
So if your name isn't printed here, don't take it personally. It doesn't mean Rodney didn't care about you or love you.
There's just too damn many of y'all!
Rodney's passing leaves a hole that can't simply be filled. There are people who come and go in our lives, and then there are people whose absence changes the room. Rodney was one of those people.
We're going to miss his voice. We're going to miss his laugh. We're going to miss the stories, the aggravation, the good times, the loud music, and even some of the things that used to drive us crazy.
Most of all, we're simply going to miss Rodney.
But this isn't only goodbye. It's also a thank-you.
Thank you, Rodney, for the memories. Thank you for the laughs. Thank you for the stories we'll tell a hundred times and somehow still laugh at.
Thank you for the miles, the music, the motorcycles, the hot rods, and all the memories made along the way.
Thank you for being a friend. Thank you for being family. And thank you for leaving a piece of yourself with everyone who truly knew you.
So when we gather to lay Rodney to rest, don't come expecting us to pretend this man's life was quiet.
Bring the Harleys. Bring the hot rods. Crank up the music. And bring the stories.
There will be tears - there's no getting around that. But there damn sure ought to be some laughter, too.
Because Rodney Hibbs lived. Rodney Hibbs was loved. And Rodney Hibbs will not be forgotten.
Rest easy, brother. Until we meet again.
