Born on November 28, 1952, Steve lived a life centered around family, community, and helping others. He shared 55 wonderful years of marriage with the love of his life, Sylvia “Kathy” Brown. Together they built a family filled with love, support, and countless cherished memories.
Steve dedicated his career as a lineman with TU Electric, where he took great pride in his work and the people he worked alongside. He also faithfully served his community as a volunteer firefighter with the Elgin Volunteer Fire Department, answering the call whenever he was needed. He proudly served six years in the National Guard, demonstrating his commitment to serving both his country and his community. His willingness to serve and help others reflected the kind of man he was.
Anyone who knew Steve knew his smile could light up a room. He loved spending time with family, attending fire department functions, enjoying BBQ cook-offs, and making memories with those he loved. He was often the life of the party, always ready with a joke or a laugh that kept everyone smiling. And those closest to him will never forget his signature exit—when he was ready to leave, he’d quietly slip out without saying goodbye, leaving everyone to realize later that Steve had already headed home.
Steve’s greatest joy was his family. He is survived by his devoted wife of 55 years, Sylvia “Kathy” Brown; his children, Kerri Brown, Garrick Brown and wife Denise, Scott Brown and wife Sarah, and Sarah Brown; and his cherished grandchildren, Alyssa, Kassidy, Karsyn, Kendyl, Kayden, and Michael. He also leaves behind numerous extended family members, lifelong friends, and his brothers and sisters of the Elgin Volunteer Fire Department, who will miss him dearly.
Though our hearts are heavy, we are grateful for the love, laughter, wisdom, and countless memories Steve gave to each of us. His legacy will live on through the family he loved so deeply and the many lives he touched throughout his life.
A Celebration of Life will be held July 11, 2026 at 11 AM at Providence-Jones Funeral Home 604 Hwy 95 North, Elgin, TX 78621.
