Abby was born June 10, 2009, to Caitlyn Alexander (Wimsatt) at Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown.
To everyone who knew her, Abby was a bright light. She had a contagious smile and the sweetest temperament. As a young girl she enjoyed playing dress-up, climbing trees, playing on any playground she could find, going to church, and participating in gymnastics for a few years. As she grew older, she enjoyed riding her bike, practicing her art skills, and playing video games. She loved animals, watching movies, visiting the aquarium and zoo, drawing anime, hanging out with her family and her friends, and of course, taco Tuesday’s.
Her teachers described her as compassionate, empathetic, gentle, and kind. This became even more apparent when her prayers for a sibling were finally answered. She has been a proud big sister ever since, and Eli has been her best bud. She graduated from the 8th grade at West Hardin Middle school in 2023. She began her freshman year at Central Hardin High School but only attended a few short months before being diagnosed with osteosarcoma.
She fought 8 months enduring aggressive treatments, surgeries, and the loss of part of her leg. After a short remission in June of 2024, she relapsed in November 2024. She faced many horrible days, but despite her circumstances she remained the kind and loving girl we knew her to be.
She is preceded in death by her G-pa, Odis (Toby) Norman, and her Mamaw, Pamela Wimsatt.
Survivors include her mother, Caitlyn Alexander; little brother Elias Alexander; her Papaw Paul Wimsatt; her aunt and uncle Tiffany and Jeremy Jones; father Heath Potter II; stepfather Nick Alexander; grandparents Rebecca and David Zeller, Tina McCauley, and Heath Potter Sr.; several cousins, great aunts and uncles, and three of the best friends.
In honor of Abby we encourage people to wear Abby Squad shirts or her favorite color blue. In lieu of flowers and in appreciation of the doctors and nurses who cared for Abby, donations can be made to the 7W Norton Children’s Addison Jo Blair Cancer Care Unit.
Visitation will take place on Sunday, November 2nd, 2025, from 3 PM until 8 PM at Cecilia Baptist Church and will resume on Monday, November 3rd, from 10 AM until 12 PM. A service will be held on Monday following the visitation at 12 PM. She will be laid to rest at Elizabethtown Memorial Gardens following the service.
