

She was born in Caro, Michigan on June 20, 1953, and grew up on the family dairy farm in Silverwood. She attended The Smith School single room schoolhouse there, then graduated from Kingston Michigan High School. She went on to get a bachelor's degree in occupational training and development from the University of Louisville in Kentucky. her life and career included wife, mother, Civil Service (which took her around the world), plus operating businesses of her own. She was also active locally with the Elizabethtown Garden Club and volunteering at the gift shop at Hardin Memorial Hospital.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Betty Corl Klimek; and a brother, Andy Lee Klimek.
Carolyn is survived by her husband of 9 and a half years, Joe, who will forever cherish the memory and privilege of the brief time he had with one of the most accomplished, driven, involved, and talented people who have ever inhabited this planet; her father, Theodore Klimek; brothers, Walter Klimek, Tim Klimek (Mary); and a sister, Lisa Stallings. Also left behind with an empty place in their heart are 2 sons, Greg Houghton (Kathy), Ryan Houghton (Ellie); a daughter, January Dunbar; stepson, Sean Thomas (Maggie); stepdaughter, Jennifer Zuerker; nephew, Travis Klimek; niece, Teddy Lemmer (Matthew); along with 11 grandchildren; and 1 great-grandchild.
The world traveler is now home.
