

She was a native of Saugus, MA, a member of St. James Catholic Church.
In Charlene’s early years she attended Nazareth College in Nazareth, Kentucky as well as the University of Kentucky. She later graduated from Western Kentucky University in 1979 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Interior Design.
After College Charlene went on to own and operate her own interior design business, Argosy Interiors, with her partner, Mary Dino, from 1992 to 2014. Her exceptional talent and creativity were recognized with awards at Louisville’s Homearama shows in 1996, 1998, and 2000. Charlene’s passion was to make everything around her beautiful, and she brought that gift to countless homes and spaces throughout Kentuckiana and beyond. Her artistic vision and influence touched many lives and left a lasting legacy of beauty and inspiration.
Charlene was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. James W. Thompson, Jr.; her parents, The Honorable Judge C. Carroll and Theresa Connor Cunningham and brothers, Carroll and Maurie F. Cunningham.
She was the passionately loving mother to three children, Christopher J. (Maureen) Thompson and Dr. Jon C. (Nicole) Thompson; one daughter, Emily (Dustin) Henderson; other survivors include one brother, Brian Cunningham and grandchildren, Christina, Alec, Jacqueline, Ella, Ashton, Gracie, Julia, Nicholas, John Paul, Elizabeth, Joshua, Noah, Samuel and Anna Marie and three great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church with Rev. Charles Walker officiating. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery.
Visitation will be Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
