He was born on October 11, 1956 to the late Julio and Mary Diaz in Houston, Texas where he lived until he attended Texas A&M University, the first of his family to go to college. At College Station, where he studied electrical engineering, he met the love of his life, Nancy Jo. They were married on January 5, 1980 in Austin, Texas. They had three kids: Austin, Abby and David.
Danny was quickly put into leading positions at companies like Dell Computers, V-Tech and Remington Arms. The last position, where he worked in the Research and Development department, moved him and his family from Texas to Kentucky.
Danny ran five marathons, cooked involved meals like garlic po’ boys and his famous super bowl chili, woodworked cutting boards, desks and wooden domino sets. He woke up in the dark to go hunting. He taught classes and preached sermons at his church. He told stories that either moved you or left you in stitches.
Above all, he was a husband who cherished his wife, a father who loved and was there for his children and a friend whom everyone wanted to be around because he wanted to be around them. He was always ready to talk—sometimes for hours. Everybody has a “Danny” story and since his passing those stories have come flooding in.
When he was 52, a heart attack took his short term memory and his ability to do many things he enjoyed, but he remained a loving, humorous and steady presence for the next eighteen years. Before the heart attack, Danny liked to run, sing along badly to his favorite songs and beat everyone at dominoes; after the heart attack, Danny liked to watch television, make up words to his favorite songs and still beat everyone at dominoes.
He will be greatly missed.
Danny is survived by his wife of forty-six years Nancy and his three children and their spouses, Rahel, Justin and Laura, as well as his seven grandchildren Hector, Eliot, Isaac, Asher, Benjamin, Sydney and Carson. He is also survived by his sister, Dorothy, and brother, Bobby. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Dora.
