Debra Zoglmann

Our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, teacher, and friend, Debra Faye Winesett Zoglmann, entered into the loving arms of her Savior on July 31, 2026, after a brief and courageous battle with cancer. Surrounded by the love of her children, she departed this earthly life with the same grace, strength, and unwavering faith that defined every day she was blessed to live.

Born on November 18, 1952 in Newport, Rhode Island, Debra was the cherished daughter of the late Dan Winesett, Jr. and Barbara Faye Covington Winesett. From an early age, she possessed a gentle spirit, a compassionate heart, and an unwavering kindness that would become the hallmarks of her life.

Debra spent many of her early years in Atlanta, Georgia and New Jersey before moving to Louisville, Kentucky, where she attended high school. She earned her education degree from the University of Kentucky, where she began laying the foundation for a life devoted to serving others through education. She began her teaching career in Louisville before marrying the love of her life, the late Robert Mark Zoglmann, in 1976. Together, they built a beautiful life centered on faith, family, and love, eventually making Elizabethtown their home as they raised their family.

In 1987, Debra joined the St. James Catholic School family as a preschool teacher. What began in the classroom blossomed into a calling that would span more than three decades, eventually serving as Learning Coordinator. To generations of students, parents, faculty, and friends, she was far more than an educator. She was a source of encouragement, wisdom, patience, and unwavering belief in every child who crossed her path. Her influence reached far beyond the walls of a classroom and will continue to live on in the countless lives she so lovingly shaped. She was also a devoted member of St. James Catholic Church for more than forty years.

Though she found joy in the simple pleasures of life, a good book, the peaceful rhythm of the ocean, and time spent at the beach, nothing filled her heart more completely than her family.

She is lovingly survived by her children: Julie (Joe) Sloan, Kristi (Brent) Ditto of Elizabethtown, and Jeff (Nicole) Zoglmann of Louisville; her seven cherished grandchildren, Connor, Caiden, and Caleb Sloan; Kate and Avery Ditto; and Olivia and Henry Zoglmann; her beloved sister, Cindy House (Shawn Rachal); nieces, Amy (Clark) Tucker and Melissa (Scott) Humphries; and numerous other family members and friends.

Debra’s greatest pride in life was her family. To her three children, she remained a devoted, loving, and supportive mother throughout their lives. Their happiness was her greatest reward, and loving them was the privilege she treasured most.

To her grandchildren, she was so much more than “Mimi.” She was their biggest fan, their loudest cheerleader, and their safest place. There was rarely a game, recital, performance, concert, or special moment she wanted to miss. She found immeasurable joy watching Connor, Caiden, and Caleb chase soccer dreams across countless fields. She proudly applauded every song sung, every dance performed, and every moment Kate and Avery stepped onto a stage doing what they loved most. She delighted in watching her youngest granddaughter, Olivia, embrace volleyball with determination and loved nothing more than spending precious time simply enjoying life with her youngest grandson, Henry, who gave some of the best hugs! Their accomplishments were her celebrations, their dreams became her own, and their happiness was one of life’s greatest gifts.

While her family grieves the unimaginable loss of her physical presence, they find comfort knowing that her love, her faith, her laughter, and the countless lessons she taught through the way she lived will continue to guide them for generations to come. Her legacy is not measured simply in years, but in the lives she changed, the hearts she healed, the children she inspired, and the family she loved beyond measure.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to all who have surrounded them with prayers, compassion, and support during this difficult time.

The funeral will be Saturday August, 8th at 10 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home with Rev. Chuck Walker officiating. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday August, 8th at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. James Catholic Church, Elizabethtown, Kentucky, in honor of Debra’s lifelong commitment to faith, education, and service.

Though our hearts are broken, Heaven has welcomed home a truly beautiful soul. She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.
