

Dorothy shared 33 wonderful years of marriage with her beloved husband, Melford Buckles. Together they built a life centered on faith, family, and love. She was a member of Galilee Baptist Church, where her unwavering faith guided her throughout her life.
She was a loving mother to Carolyn (Bob) Brown, Joyce (Wayde) Lucas, Marilyn (Donnie) Rigdon, and Judy (Wayne) Matheson, and daughter-in-law, Debbie Buckles. Her greatest joy was her family, and she cherished every moment spent with them.
Dorothy was a proud grandmother to Amy (Jeff) Loyall, Staci (Scott) Davis, Kimberly (Ted) Leonhart, Nicki (Ryan) Williams, Bethany (Theadore) Carson, Sarah (John) Naillon, Ben (Michaela) Rigdon, Tiffany (Jon) Anderson, Kyle Buckles, Hannah Matheson, Daniel Matheson, and Micah Matheson.
She was also blessed with fifteen beloved great-grandchildren: Faith Ann Davis, Laney Davis, Elise Leonhart, Kara Leonhart, Jaxson Leonhart, Sarah Carson, Emily Carson, Joseph Carson, LJ Naillon, Carter Rigdon, McKinley Rigdon, Reagan Rigdon, Lawson Rigdon, Kinsley Anderson, and Kade Anderson. Each of them brought immeasurable joy to her life.
Dorothy found great happiness in the simple pleasures of life. She loved spending quiet moments reading a good book and, before illness limited her ability, she especially enjoyed cooking and baking for her family. Whether preparing a favorite meal or sharing homemade treats, she expressed her love through the care she put into everything she made. These moments created cherished memories that her family will forever hold close.
In addition to her husband and parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her son, Jerry Buckles; sisters, Donnia, Billie, and Barbara; and brother, Stephen.
Dorothy will be remembered for her gentle spirit, unwavering faith, kind heart, and unconditional love for her family. Her legacy of compassion, strength, generosity, and devotion will continue to live on through the generations she loved so deeply. Though she will be greatly missed, her family finds comfort in knowing she is at peace and reunited with loved ones who have gone before her.
Her memory will forever be cherished by all who knew and loved her.
The family will receive friends on Friday, July 31, 2026, from 4 PM until 8 PM at Brown Funeral Home (306 College Street, Elizabethtown, KY 42701.
Funeral Services will be conducted on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at 2 PM at Brown Funeral Home (306 College Street, Elizabethtown, KY 42701. Burial will follow in Elizabethtown Memorial Garden.
