

Gail was born in Scotia, Nebraska. She traveled with her late husband to both overseas and stateside military duty stations, electing to make Kentucky their home following his military service. Gail retired from Civil Service at Fort Knox in 1993 and following this career worked for the CORE Committee for 23 years.
She was an avid gardener, loved to paint, sew and work on craft projects. She was a member of First Christian Church of Elizabethtown and a Kentucky Colonel.
Gail was preceded in death by her parents, Olive and Raymond Groetzinger; her husband, Bernard Dunkelberger and her special friend and partner, Richard Polk.
She is survived by her three sons, Bobbie Dunkelberger (Jean) of Ormond Beach, Florida; Barton Dunkelberger (Anna) of Elizabethtown, Kentucky; and Scott Dunkelberger of Elizabethtown, Kentucky; a sister, Deanna Groetzinger (Paul Stuewe) of Toronto, Ontario, Canada; a brother, Roger Groetzinger (Judy) of Lincoln, Nebraska; four grandchildren, Janine Thompson (Nick) of Cabot, Arkansas, Nikolas Dunkelberger (Natasha) of Hudson, Florida, Brittany Duff (David) of Leitchfield, Kentucky, and Derek Dunkelberger of Elizabethtown, Kentucky, as well as 16 great- grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren by marriage, along with many nieces and nephews.
She is also survived by her niece Sheryl (Carlos) Aulet of Conway, SC who lovingly cared for her to the very end. Also survived by her dear friend/sister, Jeannie Knight.
The funeral is at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 28th, 2024 at Brown Funeral Home in Elizabethtown, Kentucky with the Reverend Chris Kiger officiating.
Burial follows in Elizabethtown Memorial Gardens.
Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday and continues after 9 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
