James "J.W." Wesley Miller

James Wesley (J. W.) Miller, 88, of Elizabethtown, passed away Saturday, August 16, 2025, at his home. He was born on May 4, 1937, to Lula and David Miller, and lived his entire life on the Miller Farm in the Valley Creek area of Hardin Co.

He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend to many. A lifelong member of Valley Creek Baptist Church, he served in various roles including chair of the Building Committee to relocate the church to its present site. Although a lifelong farmer, he also worked for Gulf Oil Corporation for five years and served thirty years as a Rural Letter Carrier. As a passionate farmer who found joy in working on the land, he was known for his generosity, often using his farm and construction equipment to lend a helping hand to neighbors and friends in the community.

J. W. was preceded in death by his mother and father, Lula Mae (Hall) Miller and David T. Miller, and his sister, Christine Eubank. He was married for 68 years to his high school sweetheart, Joy Carroll Mossbarger Miller, who survives him. He is also survived by two sons, Wesley Miller and wife, Penny, of Elizabethtown and Greg Miller and wife Susan, of Lexington, three grandchildren, Josh (Kelly) Miller, Amanda (John) McNeeley, all of Elizabethtown and Austin (Christina) Miller of Cincinnati, OH, and a step grandchild, Alex (Kenny) Roberts, of East View, Kentucky. Also surviving are five great grandchildren, Easton and Carson Miller, Payton McNeeley of Elizabethtown, Otto James Miller, of Cincinnati, OH, and a step great grandson, Cainen Childress of Eastview, KY.

Mr. Miller’s funeral will be on Wednesday, August 20, 2025 at 11am at Valley Creek Baptist Church with Bro. Scott Kerr officiating. Burial will follow at Valley Creek Cemetery. Visitation is Tuesday, August 19, 2025, from 4pm - 8pm at Brown Funeral Home, in Elizabethtown, and at the church on Wednesday at 9am prior to the service.
