He was a native of Hardin Co, served in the Unites States Air Force, and was a Pilot for the Eastern Airlines and Air Force.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Pokluda; parents, James and Glynna Tharpe; and brother Glen Neal Tharpe.
He is survived by his former wife, June Tharpe Smith of Florida; two sons, James Michael Tharpe of Elizabethtown, Gary Tharpe of Florida; brother, Paul Tharpe of Jeffersonville, IN; three grandchildren, Robert Tharpe, Kristen Tharpe, and Gary Jr. Tharpe.
Their will be a graveside service 10 a.m. Thursday at The Kentucky Veterans Cemetery.
