

She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and member of her community. She was a member of Lifeline COGIC where she was the devoted mother of the church. Jimmie retired from Elizabethtown Community College after 20 years of service.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Alene Southard and a great-grandchild, Tre Gilmore.
She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Edward J. Horton of Elizabethtown; three daughters, Stephanie R. Jones and Angela R. Horton, both of Elizabethtown, and Michele Horton of Nashville, TN; two sons, James E. Horton of Elizabethtown and Tarris "Troy" (Tammy) Horton of Alexandria, KY; one brother, Bobby G. Southard of Chicago; two sisters, Carrie Roberts and Stella (Earl) Green, both of Huntsville, AL; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; 2 godchildren, Peggy Peeler and Jami Briggs; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
The funeral is at 12 p.m. Thursday, February 2, 2023 at First Baptist Church in Elizabethtown with Pastor Willie Scott officiating.
Burial follows in Elizabethtown Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Brown Funeral Home and continues after 11 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church.
