Larry is lovingly survived by his three children: Jennifer (James Bosley), Larry (Brian Bailey), and Sammy (Kristin Sturgeon); their mother, Patty Spear; and four cherished grandchildren: Stetson, Annslea, Bristol, and Jane. He also leaves behind a beloved pack of granddogs and grandcats.
He is preceded in death by a daughter, Meredith Spear, his parents, and his sister, Lou Ann Bartley.
Larry was born in Tompkinsville, Kentucky on September 15, 1954, to Eddie Veachel Spear and Nadine Short. A fixer and builder of things, he spent most of his career outdoors in construction, concrete, and logging. He loved his family fiercely and enjoyed everything about being outside, from taking long drives through the country to tending his vegetable garden and fishing on the river.
Despite a diagnosis of dementia at the age of 65 that greatly impacted his final years, Larry maintained his sense of humor and continued to enjoy Westerns and old television shows, especially weekend afternoons filled with episodes of Gunsmoke and The Andy Griffith Show. His love for his family, his sense of humor, and his steady presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Sycamore Heights Health and Rehabilitation for the love and care they provided to Larry over the last two years.
A private celebration of life will be held by the family at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your local Alzheimer’s Association in Larry’s memory.
