

She was born Dec. 15, 1933, to Elijah and Laura Shelton in Barbourville, Jarvis Store.
Mary worked for American Greetings in 1950s and General Motors in Detroit, Michigan. Mary was a Christian woman who raised their children while helping with various family businesses. She was a motel owner as well as hairdresser and owner of Boot Country for more than 34 years.
She enjoyed bowling a great deal, especially with her son, James, and together they won two league championships. She bowled for more than 50 years in Elizabethtown, making many friends along the way.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Jerry Stroud, Oct. 9, 1999; siblings, Lonnie Shelton, Ruby Priest, Oscar Shelton and Andy Shelton.
She is survived by her husband, Jim Stroud who she married on June 7, 1958; son, James Stroud and his wife, Lenora; siblings, Irene Thompson (98 years old) of Somerset and John Shelton of Ohio; grandchildren, Brandon Goodman (Christie Ellis), Marshal Goodman (Heather Goodman) and Dylan Goodman (Jessica Withers); great-grandchildren, Lazarus (10), Ellie (6), Aurora (2), Bunker (1) and Athena (10 months); and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral is at 1 p.m., Tuesday, June 30, 2026 at Brown Funeral Home in Elizabethtown, Kentucky. Burial will follow in Hardin Memorial Park.
Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, June 29, 2026 and continues at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 30, 2026 at the funeral home.
Mary will be missed by many. Romans 6:23: “For the wage of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus Our Lord.”
