

Richard Lee Parnell, a wise and kind-hearted soul, passed away on Friday, October 3, 2025, at the age of 75. Born on June 26, 1950, Richard lived a life filled with love, service, and passion, residing in Elizabethtown, Kentucky.
Richard's life was marked by his remarkable service in the Army during the Vietnam War, where he was awarded the Purple Heart for his courageous actions. His dedication and bravery were a testament to his character and commitment to his country.
Beyond his military achievements, Richard had a vibrant personal life. He loved watching movies, with his favorite show being MASH, and he found joy in playing video games and interacting with people. An avid Notre Dame Football fan, Richard's enthusiasm for sports was infectious to those around him.
Richard is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Shirley Parnell; son, Michael Parnell; parents, Charles Parnell and Norma Groves; and sister, Vicky Evans.
Left to cherish his memory are his sons, Jason Parnell, Shaun Parnell, Jeff Parnell, Bryan Parnell (Ashley); step-children, David John (Christine), Chris John, Tammy Craddock (Mike), Jennifer Stender; 17 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; and siblings, Sue, and Gene Ann.
There will be a Graveside Service celebrating Richard on Friday, October 10, 2025 at the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central promptly at 1:30pm.
Richard's legacy of wisdom and kindness will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by all who knew him.
