

He was a native of Depoy, KY, served in the U.S. Navy during Vietnam and was a police officer for the City of Louisville. He retired from USPS where he was a rural mail carrier. He was a member of the Morrison Masonic Lodge #76 F& AM, the Scottish Rites and 32nd Degree Shriner.
Joe loved his farm and his hometown. He was a proud American and believed in all things USA. He was a strong and dedicated man who loved his wife and family, especially his constant loyal dog Woogie.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Ann Dukes; his parents, Joe Thurman and Pearl Blaine Dukes; a daughter, Kimberly Michelle Dukes and a brother, David Edward Dukes.
Survivors include two children, Joe Blaine (Kristina) Dukes of Chaplin and Judith Ann Birkhead of Louisville; one brother Billy Glenn Dukes of Elizabethtown; three grandchildren, Kenny Dukes, Christina Dukes and Jacob Bare; one great-grandchild, James Cole Dukes and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Thursday at 4 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Hill officiating.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
