

Howard was a 1951 graduate of Lynnvale High School and served two years in the U.S. Army during the Korean War as an MP in Germany. After the war, he graduated from the Kentucky School of Embalming and worked at various funeral homes, he retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 32 years.
In retirement, he enjoyed farming and collecting classic cars. He loved RV traveling and going to National Rodeo’s and Bluegrass music festivals. He was a member of The Wesleyan Church, was an active member of Kentucky Draft Horse & Mule Association and the Model A Ford Association.
Howard was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Martha Carter VanMeter, his parents, Glenn VanMeter Sr. and Donley VanMeter; his brother, Glenn E. VanMeter Jr.; and a sister, Pauline VanMeter.
Survivors include his sisters, Venice VanMeter Eads of Elizabethtown and Eunice VanMeter Price of Morehead City, NC, as well as several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to his caregivers Jan Ragland, Marty Noblett, and Nedra Boone, for their kindness, attentiveness, and faithful support.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. and continue after 12:00 noon Thursday at Brown Funeral Home
The funeral will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Steve Hill officiating. Burial will follow in Elizabethtown Memorial Gardens.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Donor’s favorite charity.
