On Monday, November 4, 2019, Nand Kishor Wahi, “Kish”, loving husband and father passed away at the age of 91 in Antrim County, Michigan. Kish was born on September 26, 1928 in Lahore, Pakistan eventually making his way to New Delhi, India at the age of 19 with his parents and siblings during partition. Kish received his undergrad and master’s degrees in psychology in England before coming to the United States on the Queen Elizabeth to attend a doctoral program at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Dr. Wahi was a professor at Eastern Michigan University where he taught graduate classes in education for 30 years — to literally thousands of students. In 1969 he married Ellen Marie Lindeman; they had two children, Jennifer and Kurtis, and made their home in Northville, Michigan. Kish loved gardening, plants and trees, and being surrounded by nature and the outdoors. He also loved his Michigan Wolverine football team. He was a compassionate man who cared deeply and equally for humankind, the earth, animals, and people. Kish was known for his quick wit and sense of humor, his tenacious number and math skills, and his infectious, kind, caring gentle personality. In his retirement years, Kish and Ellen spent summers on beautiful Torch Lake in northern Michigan to be close to their daughter. They spent winters in Grass Valley, California near their son. Kish loved his wife deeply and was so proud of his two children and all their accomplishments in life. Kish is survived by so many friends and family members to mention. He was one of seven children and is even survived by his 99 year old brother Benarsi. Kish is also lovingly survived by his “furry grand pets” who will all miss grandpa greatly. Kish will be cremated at Covell Funeral Home in Traverse City, Michigan and a celebration of his life will take place on Torch Lake in the spring where the family hopes everyone who knew Kish will join them. Kish’s children, Jenny and Kurtis, ask in the meantime that you love and celebrate life like their father did and to take the time to have meaningful conversations with loved ones while they are with you. Donations to fire rescue such as California Fire Foundation, Amazon Rainforest Alliance, Save the Earth Foundation, and Luke’s Landing for animals or any other local charities helping people in need, animals in need, or the planet in Kish Wahi’s memory can be made in order to make the world a better place. Fly with the angels Kish – 2952! 2952! We love you!
