OBITUARY

Emily Mae Dillon

September 19, 1932November 6, 2019

Emily Mae Dillon passed away peacefully at her home on November 6, 2019 surrounded by her loving family. She was born September 19, 1932 in Kewadin, Michigan, to Cecil and Velma (Bussa) Goodman. Emily graduated from Williamsburg High School in 1950. She married Dale Dillon on January 6, 1951. Emily was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Church. She loved to paint and there are many treasured oil paintings hanging in her family’s homes. During the hectic years of raising a large family, Emily and Dale made sure to save every Saturday night for square dancing. In retirement, Emily loved to sit on the deck with her dog, Coda, on her lap and a glass of wine in her hand, watching the ducks and swans float by. Emily is survived by her loving husband Dale Dillon, her sons, Mike (Christi), Marty, Kim (Michele), Kelly (Colleen), Kirk (Mati), Mitch (Diane); her daughters, Kris (Richard) Dillon-Weathers, Karen (John) Baker, Karel (Doug) Madsen; 29 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. Emily is also survived by brothers, Allen (Louise) Goodman, Roger (Linda) Goodman and sister-in-law Peggy (Stanley) Goodman. Emily was preceded in death by her parents Cecil and Velma Goodman, her brothers Larry Goodman and Stanley Goodman. Family and friends may visit on Friday, November 15 beginning at 6 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Elk Rapids. A Vigil service will begin at 7 p.m. Visitation will also be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 16. Mass from the Order of Christian Funerals will begin at 11 a.m. with Reverend Robert J. Zuchowski presiding. He will be assisted by Deacon Stephen Bussa. A luncheon will follow the Mass at Sacred Heart Parish Hall. Committal will be at Yuba Cemetery. Holding a fresh baked apple pie, with a crust made for the angels, Emily passed through the gates of Heaven, into the welcoming arms of her family. Those of us left behind will hunger after that pie till our time has come.

What fond memories as our two families were close when we were growing up. You were the pretty, blond, blue eyed, fun cousin. You will be missed for your artistic ability, you genealogy and gathering of the family over the years, your caring, and friendliness. Our deepest sympathy, love, and hugs to Dale and the family.

My condolences to Dale and their children! Celebrate her life by sharing the happy and loving times that you shared individually so that all may remember her fondly. My prayers will be with you as you mourn her passing.

Personally, I remember Friday nights in Interlochen as they taught the art of square dancing. Several of my friends and I made it a point for three years to be there and share their joy. She was a ray of sunshine in my teen years. It was a pleasant surprise to attend a Bussa Family reunion and learn (I know my parents had been telling me for years) that Dale and Emily are cousins to our family. She will be missed.
