Erik Michael Lake

January 6, 1983July 18, 2020

Erik Michael Lake, loving husband, father, son, brother and friend passed away unexpectedly as a result of an accident on Saturday July 18, 2020. Erik was born on January 6, 1983 and raised in Williamsburg Michigan the son of Carl & Denise Lake. On September 9, 2017 he married the love of his life Morgan Paradis. Erik and Morgan brought two beautiful boys into the world, Wyatt and Austin. Erik was a wonderful father and so proud of his boys. He loved wrenching in the garage with them and teaching them all the tools and their uses. Erik was always up for an UNO or Supermario Kart competition and making them pancakes and bacon on the weekends. Erik’s boys were his world and his legacy will live on through them. Erik graduated from Elk Rapids High School in 2001. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, working on vehicles and spending time with his family. Fridays after work Erik would stop and chat with his dad about how their week went. He loved wheelin in the burg with his best friend Dave. Erik could be found jamming to Country Gold Radio anytime he was finishing a project. He was an avid Detroit Lions fan and could easily tell you the stats of any sports team. He was a problem solver and jack of all trades, there wasn’t anything he couldn’t do. He was always on the quest for more knowledge, wanting to be the best at everything either at home, work or working on an endeavor. He had the most brilliant mind and shared his love and knowledge of programming with Tenet Hydraulics Co. and Grand Traverse Plastics. Erik is survived by his wife Morgan, his sons Wyatt and Austin. His parents Carl & Denise Lake, grandfather Frances “Tuffy” (Joyce) Lake, sisters Nicole (Marcus) Dixon, Doreen (Rob) Gauthier, niece Cabrini Gauthier, his Uncle Bob Ferguson. Erik was 20 years old when he and I started working together at Grand Traverse Plastics. In no time, I realized what a special man he was. He could type faster than I can read!
Erik was able to use his keyboard and computer skills while developing programs for the assembly machines, robots and other devices.
But... the content of those programs came from his incredible mind!!
Erik could design and layout wiring diagrams, then perfectly wire even the most difficult panels. His mechanical abilities allowed him to solve problems that weren't even part of his programs.
The two years I spent with Erik were the most enjoyable of my life, not just because of the successful projects, but the special friendship we shared.
I miss Erik.
I pray that Morgan and their boys, Carl, Denise and the rest of Erik's family and us friends can find a way to enjoy our memories of him and allow the sorrow to pass.
Rest in Peace, Buddy.

I will keep your family in my thoughts and prayers. Having had Erik on my school bus, I will always remember him as a jokester, fun loving, not always following the rules kind of guy! What a great sense of humor and knowing his love for his family makes me proud of the person he grew to be. I am glad he had you in his life Morgan and his sons. Take care of yourself and know that if there is anything I can do let me know.
Love you and your family always,
Char the bus driver
