was born on January 13, 1929, in Litchfield, Minnesota and was raised there.
After graduating from the University of Minnesota, he married the former Barbara Link then following
he received his MBA from the University of Detroit.
After a period of service during the Korean conflict in the US Army, he began his marketing career. His
job took him many places overseas, and he was instrumental in the development of the airbag.
The couple moved to Detroit around 1962.
Francis enjoyed bird watching, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and Art Institute, and was an avid
photographer, and was also very active in coaching baseball, softball and hockey.
After the death of his wife in 1984, he retired in the late 1980's and moved north to Elk Rapids, MI,
where he has been an active member of the community for over 25 years.
Most importantly he cherished his summers with his grandchildren visiting and spending time with
him.
He is survived by his children; Greg, Jim (Sue) and Judy (Bob)
Racette, grandchildren; Sam, Andy, Matt, and
Allie Walker, Rachel and Jake Racette, and sister Kathryn Wright.
Besides his wife he was preceded in death by his
daughter in law Jamie and three brothers.
Cremation has taken place, and his ashes will be interred in the
memorial garden at St. James Episcopal Church in Birmingham, MI.
