

George enlisted in the US Army in 1942 and served 4 years during WWII in the 7th Armor Division under General Patten and General Bradley. He married the late Edith Elizabeth Kemppainen on March 20, 1948 in Hancock. George worked for Ford Motor Company at the Ford-Wixom Plant as a driver repair man for over 30 years. After retirement George and Edith moved to Elk Rapids in 1980. George enjoyed fishing, gardening, the outdoors, and was a loyal fan of the Detroit Tigers.
George is survived by his daughters: Christine (Rod) Hosman of Northville and Marilyn (Jay) King of Farmington; Grandchildren: Marcus (Melissa) Hosman, Kristopher (Joy) King, and Carrie Hosman; 4 great grandchildren: Megan, Emily, Ryan, and Daniella; many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, George was preceded in death by his wife Edith, 3 brothers: John, Joe, and Matt, and one sister Ann.
Memorial services will be held today, May 14, 2011 at 3p.m. at the Covell Funeral Home in Elk Rapids. Memorial contributions in George’s name may be directed to Antrim County Commission on Aging.
