

Harry M. Potter, age 84, of Elk Rapids, passed away peacefully Friday, May, 1, 2015 at Munson Hospice House, surrounded by his family. Harry was born September 6, 1930 in Elkhart, IN to Harry and Phyllis (Mahn) Potter.
Harry graduated from North Muskegon High School and went on to study finance at Muskegon Community College. He enlisted in the US Air Force in 1950 and attended finance school at Fort Benjamin Harrison in Indiana.
On September 11, 1952, Harry married Eleanor Gillette in Muskegon. Together they raised 3 sons. Harry retired from GMAC as a collection Manager after 30 years of service. He then went on to worked for Northwestern Bank and Trust in Traverse City for 8 years after his retirement.
Harry was an Elder for the North Kent Presbyterian Church in Rockford. He enjoyed wood working, sailing, camping, hiking, and loved anything that had to do with being in the outdoors.
Harry will be greatly missed by his wife of 62 years, Eleanor; three sons: Michael (Judy) of Big Bay, MI, Steven (Jamie) of Rockford, and Christopher (Maureen) of Racine, WI; 7 grandchildren: Michael (Carrie), Kelly (Clint) Barr, Dane, Stacey, Andrew, Nicholas, and Caroline; 5 great grandchildren, a brother, Philip Potter, and a niece and nephew.
Besides his parents, Harry was preceded in death by a sister-in-law Mary Lynn Potter.
A Memorial service will be held Saturday, May 9, 2015 at 11am at the First Presbyterian Church in Elk Rapids with visitation one hour prior. Along with the service, there will be full military honors to pay tribute to Harry’s time with the US Air Force.
Memorial contributions in Harry’s name may be directed to the First Presbyterian Church of Elk Rapids or the Wounded Warrior Project.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Covell Funeral home of Elk Rapids.
