Jim an I are first cousins. My special memory of Jim is back in the 50's my folks and I went to Lincoln Park to visit my Aunt Mandy and Cousin Jim. He is 11 years older than I. We were sitting in family room, being a teenager I got bored and Jim seen this so he ask my folks if he could take me to a German Bar. Well my folks quizzed him about it and he said it was not like the regular bars as they had eating and dancing and one could order a beer or a soda. So we went and I had the best time of my life. People was dancing and singing in German. It was so neat. We did dance and it was so much fun. I will never forget that time.
Jim and I have kept in touch and we would go to Elk Lake and visit with him. I had just talked with him about two weeks ago, I think and he sounded good. I am in shock of his death. May you rest in Peace Jim. You will always be remember for your good heart and kindness. Amen.

Jim had not been my Uncle of long. But I know he made my Aunt Laura happy and that was enough for me to love him. He accepted me into his family with wide open arms. Love the time we spent with Uncle Jim and Aunt Laura up on Elk Lake. I will always remember him.

Jim Gurd was a gentleman. He lived his life like a adult boy scout always getting ready for the next adventure. I visualize a great reunion for him with all his Mancelona family and friends. It was a pleasure for me to have known him.

Jim has been a special person in our lives. We are living here on Elk Lake because of his influence on my late husband Don. I will miss his stories of Mancelona and many outdoor adventures. My children will miss him too. Rest in peace. We have our memories and we are glad to have known him.
