Louis Lee Bohstedt, age 83, of Williamsburg, passed away Nov. 14, 2016 at his farm in Benzie County. Louis was born on July 30, 1933 to Ernest and Ruby (Duquette) Bohstedt in Saginaw. In his early 30s he moved to Traverse City, and while there he met and married Carolyn Worden, of Beulah, on July 24, 1965 in Honor. Together they had two wonderful children, Jeffrey and Cheryl. Louis served in the U.S. Armed Forces during the Korean War and was awarded several medals for his service. After his time in the service Louis became an optician, and his life work was spent manufacturing eye glasses.
Louis' life enjoyment was his family and friends. Each year time was set aside for salmon camp with his son, Jeff, and friends, Jim, Don, Charlie and Curtis, and deer camp with his son and friends. Both camps took place at the farm, where many happy memories were created and will be cherished by all. Louis also enjoyed cutting firewood with a passion, which was used for heating his home.
Louis is survived by his wife, Carolyn; daughter, Cheryl Schaefer, of Brethren; son, Jeffrey Bohstedt, of Williamsburg; grandchildren, John and Charlee Schaefer; brother-in-law, Norm Schutt, of Florida; sister, Julie Sigelko, of Saginaw; and many nephews, nieces and wonderful friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Faye Schutt; in-laws, Don and Alice Worden; and sister and brother-in-law, Dick and Jane Weaver.
Louis' family wishes to thank the wonderful staff at Munson Medical Center and Dr. Gail Gwizdala, Dr. Daniel Flewelling and Dr. Andrew Riddle and their staffs for the excellent care they provided. Memorial contributions may be made to Grace Lutheran Church Missouri Synod of Elk Rapids.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Covell Funeral Home of Elk Rapids.
