Martha May Gilbert

Martha May Gilbert, age 90 of Traverse City, passed away on April 24, 2016. She was the loving wife of over 68 years to George. Cherished mom of David (Susie), Dennis, Yvonne (Don) Cunkle, Theresa Shimmel and Colleen (Paul) Kollmeyer. Dear grandma of Greg, Carol, Kerry, Christopher, Sheri, Elizabeth, Scott and Megan. Great grandma of 6. Martha also leaves behind many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; Cecil and Edna Chaney and sister; Ruth Chaney. Martha was ahead of her time. She was a lifetime learner, finishing her Master’s degree in Education while raising 5 children. She was very active in the church and enjoyed gardening, reading and knitting.

Visitation will be held on Friday, April 29, 2016 from 5-7pm at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, with a Vigil for Martha at 7pm. Mass from the order of Christian Funerals will be celebrated at 10am, Saturday, April 30, 2016, visitation at 9am at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, Rev. Robert J. Zuchowski and Rev. Ray Bruck presiding. Memorial contributions made in Martha’s name may be directed to the Special Olympics Area 2, AC PAWS or Sacred Heart Church.
