Nancy Anne Gelazin

December 11, 1931June 14, 2019

Nancy Anne Gelazin passed away June 14, 2019 at Munson Medical Center surrounded by her loving family. Nancy Hiller was born in Detroit, grew up in North Rosedale Park, married, and graduated from the University of Arkansas.

After living in Little Rock, Wichita and Memphis, she returned to Michigan to raise her family in Farmington before moving to Elk Rapids in 1976. Nancy worked as the secretary for Wanigan Builders for over 30 years.

Nancy is survived by her children Lisa (Jim) Reed, Rick (Don McNeill) Gelazin and Paul (Julie) Gelazin, grandkids; Dan, Kate (Danny), Callie (Garrett), Lisa (Jesse), Mike, Ryan, Eric and Aaron, and several great-grandchildren. Sadly, she was predeceased by her son Greg in 2007.

Family was the most important thing to Nancy, and she enjoyed having her extended family come for 30 years of Harbor Days celebrations. She also enjoyed the view from her home, senior chair exercise class, Key West, good food, white wine, biking on Mackinac Island, the Detroit Tigers and the Blue Angels. You may not recognize her name, but if you live on the west side of Elk Rapids you probably know her face. She called herself "The Streetwalker of Elk Rapids" because she had a great passion for walking, and did so nearly every day for decades.

Nancy will be sorely missed by her family, and her friends from the Elk River Cove Condos, Wanigan Builders and the senior chair exercise class. No funeral is planned per her wishes.

Memorial contributions in Nancy's name may be made to the Antrim County Commission on Aging or the Elk Rapids Garden Club. Her family wishes to thank the doctors and staff at Munson Medical Center for the exceptional care they gave our Mom, and also for the help and compassion they extended to her family during that time.

Nancy Gelazin was a hero of mine. She was my best friend's mother, but I felt she was also my friend. She always had her hand out to help someone. She loved to share a story, share a meal, share her time -- always with a big smile on her face. She will be sadly missed by many.

We will miss Nancy. Rest peacefully. We will remember your smile and wave as you left your walkway to stroll around ER.

This world has lost an amazing woman. I was blessed to be able to spend time with Nancy and call her my friend. I enjoyed our talks and discussions on the Tigers. She had such a wonderful sense of humor and so caring. I will truly miss her and her hugs. My heart goes out to her kids, she always had nothing but good memories to share with me about them. She was so proud of them. She felt so loved.
I am celebrating her life and the many laughs we had together in my chair. Love you Nancy.
