Raymond F. Graham

Raymond Fredric Graham, age 74, of Kewadin passed away peacefully Sunday, November 3, 2013 at the Munson Hospice House surrounded by his loving family. Ray was born December 9, 1938 in Saginaw to Fred and Helen (Myers) Graham. Ray graduated from Arthur Hill High School and Alma College with a Masters Degree in Education, where he was a three sport athlete. He married Peggy Cole on August 22, 1964 in Detroit. Together they raised 2 children. Ray taught math for more than thirty years in Owosso, Dearborn Heights, and Elk Rapids Public Schools. He coached basketball and baseball in Elk Rapids. He built numerous homes throughout the Elk Rapids area and crafted and sold Michigan clocks. He enjoyed constructing an extensive model train display in his home and sharing it with his grandchildren and other visitors. In his spare time, he also enjoyed golfing, camping, and train travel. Ray was an active member of his church, serving as an elder and trustee. He was the Elk Rapids Citizen of the Year in 1990. Ray will be greatly missed by his wife of almost 50 years, Peggy Graham; children, Brett (Erin) Graham and Megan Zell; siblings, Bob, Donna, and Tim (Theresa) Graham; grandchildren, Maddie Zell, Cole and Abby Graham; brother-in-law Tom (Barb) Cole and sister-in-law Kathy (John) Moore. Ray was preceded in death by his parents and in-laws, Tom and Dorothy Cole. A visitation will be held Friday, November 8, 2013 from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm at the Covell Funeral Home in Elk Rapids. A funeral will be held Saturday, November 9, 2013 at 1 pm at the First Presbyterian Church in Elk Rapids. Burial will take place at Maple Grove Cemetery in Elk Rapids. Reception to follow at the church. Memorial contributions in Ray’s name may be directed to Elk Rapids Public Schools District Office, 707 East Third Street, Elk Rapids, MI 49629.
