

Virginia Elizabeth (Green) Gorno, passed away peacefully on November 6, 2016 in Acme. “Ginger” was born on September 8th 1932 in Detroit to William Clarence and Anna Schultz Green. She was the seventh of eight children, with two brothers and five sisters. She grew up on Dragoon Street and graduated from Holy Redeemer High School. She is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Dominic Gorno Jr. Ginger and Nick raised their eight children on Grosse Ile and summered in Rondeau Park Ontario. They retired to Alden, MI and Ft. Myers, FL, and owned and operated Antrim Antiques in Alden for 12 years. Ginger loved collecting antiques and quilts, and was one of the largest quilt collectors in Michigan. She displayed them at various shows including the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island. Ginger loved nature. She cherished her Torch Lake sunsets, feeding the wild birds that gathered at her numerous feeders, card games, and family get-togethers. Her family and friends will forever cherish her biography documented in the book she wrote and published in 2003 titled “Ginger.” She was a loyal and generous friend. Each summer, Ginger would make hundreds of jars of homemade strawberry and raspberry jam to give away. In addition to her husband Nick she is survived by her beloved children, Dominic III (Karen), Greg (Patti), Mary (Robert) Keedy, James (Connie), Jeff (Colleen), Ruth, and Diane. Her grandchildren will miss her infectious laugh and her loving support. They include Desire (James) Short, Dominic IV (Barb), Andrea (Robert) Saccullo, Alex, Timothy, Elizabeth (Steve) Goetz, Ginger (Brett) Lorscheider, Joseph Keedy, Christopher, Clayton, Emily, Jack, Marlena, Samuel, Michael, Angelo, James, Claire, Katherine, and Iris. She also had seven great-grandchildren. Ginger was preceded in death by her son Daniel and grandson Peter. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Father Paul John Coury, Ginger’s nephew, will preside at the funeral mass, to be held at St. Luke’s Church in Bellaire on November 12 at 11:00am.
