

A.G. Parrott, age 100, passed away peacefully on May 10, 2026. Born on July 5, 1925, he lived a remarkable century marked by service, hard work, leadership, faith, and devotion to family and community.
A lifelong resident of the Elkridge area, A.G. grew up in Harwood Park in Elkridge, Maryland. He attended his early grades in the one-room schoolhouse in Harwood before graduating from Elkridge High School with the Class of 1942.
Following graduation, A.G. enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He attended flight school and earned his wings as a B-25 bomber Flight Officer in 1943. After proudly serving his country, he was honorably discharged in 1945 and returned home to begin building both a family and a business legacy.
Shortly after his return, A.G. purchased a dump truck and founded A.G. Parrott Company, hauling bank-run gravel to local blacktop plants while simultaneously attending the University of Maryland, College Park. He married Mildred Riggleman in 1948 and graduated from Maryland in 1949 with a degree in business. Together they raised three children: Susan, George, and Barbara.
A.G. devoted his life to growing A.G. Parrott Company, which operated successfully for 68 years before closing in 2015. Even at the age of 90, he remained active in the business he built from the ground up through determination, integrity, and hard work.
He was deeply committed to serving his community and held leadership roles in numerous organizations throughout Howard County and beyond. His many associations and honors included membership in the Maryland Association of Engineers since 1957; two terms as President of the Howard County Chamber of Commerce during the 1970s; and more than 60 years of dedicated service to the Elkridge Rotary Club, where he served as President from 1965–1967 and was named Outstanding Rotarian in both 1969 and 1970. In 1972, he received a Howard County Proclamation for Community Assistance During Tropical Storm Agnes. He was also honored with the Baltimore County Contractors Association Lifetime Achievement Award for Outstanding Leadership in 2012.
A.G. was a man of deep faith who helped build Harwood Methodist Church. He loved flying airplanes, playing golf, and giving back to his community. He will be remembered for his strong work ethic, generous spirit, leadership, and unwavering devotion to family and friends.
He was the beloved husband of the late Pauline Parrott; devoted father of Susan Lazar (Sanford), George Parrott (Mary Jean), Barbara Finamore (Raymond), and Joyce Dennis (the late Lou); dear brother of Carolee Borcherding and the late Ruth Smith.
He was the loving grandfather of Danielle Lazar, Jacqueline Bonney, James Parrott, Allison Grace Parrott Grochmal, Tiffany Finamore, Nicholas Albert Finamore, Timothy Finamore, Andrew Finamore, and the late Kristin Dintelman; and cherished great-grandfather of Jonah, Miles, Luke, Emily, Lucia, Jocelyn, Bennett, and the late Genevieve.
A.G.’s life was a testament to perseverance, service, faith, and love. His legacy will continue through the family he cherished, the community he helped build, and the many lives he touched over the course of a century well lived.
Family and friends are invited to gather at Gary L. Kaufman Funeral Home at Meadowridge Memorial Park, Inc. 7250 Washington Blvd, Elkridge, MD 21075 (Exit 6 south off Route 100) on Thursday, May 14, 2026 from 3:00 - 7:00 pm where a Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, May 15, 2026 at 10am. Interment Meadowridge Memorial Park, Inc.
