Alfred Kofi Asante, 82, of Los Angeles, California until 2019 and most recently of Silver Spring, Maryland, passed away on February 8th, 2021. He was born to the late Rosina Aso Asante and to Mr. Evans Allotey on May 17th, 1938 in Mamfe in the Eastern Region of Ghana, West Africa. Alfred attended elementary school at Mangoase, Eastern Region, Ghana and continued to Anum Boso for middle school then later completed at Mamfe Presbyterian Middle School. Upon completion he started his career as a trainee in the accounting office at the University of Ghana at Legon, Accra. He left to join his beloved sister Letitia (Nana Oye Sempa) in Takoradi where he continued to work in accounting at a private timber company. He met the mother of his children and Rosemond and Frances were born to him in Takoradi. Alfred returned to Accra where he worked at Farmer’s Council until he left Ghana to the U.K. for further studies in 1968. Alfred obtained his Chartered Accounting License in London and was employed as an accountant at Harrod’s Department Store until he migrated to the U.S. in 1978. He continued his accounting career obtaining his CPA and working in municipal as well as state tax accounting throughout the North East, Mid Atlantic, South West, and West Coast of the U.S. before finally settling in Los Angeles thirty years ago. He was employed with H&R Block until retirement. After retirement, he worked privately providing accounting & tax services to people from all walks of life in the Los Angeles area. Alfred’s first love was accounting – he loved his job and was well sought after by several immigrants for his tax expertise. He moved to Maryland to be with his sister and her family for the past two years. He is survived by his children; Rosemond Allotey, Frances Allotey, Abigail Ofori, Amy Owusu Kankam, and Yaa Eshun of Accra, Ghana, and Adubea Allotey of London. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, his sister Nana Oye Sempa, his niece Dr. Akua Asiedu of Columbia, MD, his nephew Kweku Asamoa of Accra, Ghana, his stepchildren, Sharon and Jonathan, as well as loved ones and friends in the Los Angeles area.
A Celebration of Life Committal Service will be held for Alfred Kofi Asante at Meadowridge Memorial Park, 7250 Washington Blvd., Elkridge, Maryland 21075 (Exit 6 South off Route 100) on April 16, 2021 at 1:00pm.
