

On Wednesday, June 28th, 2017, Alma Annette Scott Johnson passed on peacefully. She was the youngest child of the late Jasper R. and Louise Lane Scott and was born July 15, 1942 in Halifax, North Carolina. She lived in Laurel, MD for more than 40 years.
She attended Andrew Jackson elementary school and Ralph J. Bunche high school in Weldon, North Carolina. During these years, she also accepted Christ as her savior and was baptized at First Baptist church where she sang in the junior choir and participated in church plays. She graduated as Salutatorian while playing varsity basketball as the co-captain of the team and scored 58 points in one tournament game. She was President of the Honor Society and was on the choir and the Commerce club as well. She attended college at North Carolina Central University (formerly North Carolina College). She graduated on May 30, 1964 with a Bachelor of Science (Commerce) degree.
Alma worked at the United States Department of Agriculture for 31 years. In 1980, she was selected to be an assistant to the Administrator (Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service (ASCS)). This was the first time in ASCS’s history a woman had been named as Assistant to the Administrator. She received a number of outstanding performance awards and Certificate of Merit during her career in ASCS. She also received several Administrators Award for Excellence (ASCS) highest employee recognition.
She married Raymond Thomas Johnson on April 8, 1967 and they had a long, wonderful marriage of 28 years until his passing on December 6, 1995. She joins him and they are together again up above. She leaves behind her two devoted sons Brian K. and Cedrick A. Johnson, her grandchildren, Jaylen, Jordan, Camryn and Lauren; daughters -in-law, Shana and Nicole Johnson; two sisters, Betty A. Scott and Alfreda S. Williams; one sister-in-law, a brother -in-law and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives
She was a member of Plymouth Congregational United Church of Christ in Washington, DC. Services will be held at Gary L. Kaufman Funeral Home at Meadowridge Memorial Park, Inc., 7250 Washington Boulevard, Elkridge, MD 21075 (exit 6 off Rt. 100 south) on Friday, July 14, 2017 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm where a Celebration of Life Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, July 15, 2017 at 1:30 pm. Interment Maryland National Memorial Park, Laurel, MD.
