

Audrey Isabelle (Gordon) Shumway, known affectionately as “Scotty,” of Laurel, Maryland, passed away on January 6, 2026, just days shy of her 95th birthday. She was born on January 16, 1931. Audrey was born and raised in Fall River, Massachusetts, the daughter of Joseph F. Gordon and Florence M. (Ferris) Gordon. She was close with her grandparents, John J. Shirt and MaryAnn (Gordon) Shirt, Emma (Lord) Ferris and Manuel Ferris. She graduated from Truesdale School of Nursing in 1952.
Scotty met a young man in 1947, taught him to dance, and that was the beginning of a lifelong love. Audrey & Shum enjoyed 71 years of marriage.
She fully appreciated the importance of family and she had a great respect and knowledge of her family history, which she imparted to her 3 children.
An avid reader, learner, and movie goer during her life, she enjoyed American and Scottish history, period documentaries, museums, science fiction programs, classic movies and musicals.
Scotty is survived by her beloved husband, Myron A. Shumway Jr.; her children: Kevin L. Shumway of Laurel, Maryland, Heather J. Fitzgerald (husband David) of Bel Air, Maryland, and the late Wayne A. Shumway (wife Billie) of Live Oak, Florida. She is also survived by her sister, Karen Keller (husband George) of Henderson, Nevada, and her brother, the late Arthur L. Gordon.
She is lovingly remembered by her grandchildren: Joseph K. “Kris” Shumway, Jack M. Fitzgerald, Hannah C. C. Fitzgerald, and the late Michael A. Shumway. She is also survived by her nephew and nieces, Keith Stumbaugh, Karey Crowl, and Kristen Ladanyi, all of Nevada; several cousins, including Beverly and John Moniz of Massachusetts; extended New England family; great-nieces and great-nephews; close family member Christine Folks of Maryland; and her honorary granddaughter, Natalie Weber of Cincinnati.
Audrey was loved immensely and completely by her husband & children, and she will be missed always.
A visitation will be held at the Gary L. Kaufman Funeral Home at Meadowridge Memorial Park, 7250 Washington Blvd., Elkridge, MD 21075, on Thursday, January 15, 2026, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 PM. Interment will follow at Meadowridge Memorial Park.
