Barbara Jean LaNore, born on May 5, 1957, in Philadelphia, PA, passed away on October 22, 2025, at the age of 68. A resident of Laurel, Maryland, Barbara was known for her intelligence, creativity, and kind spirit.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 32 years, Michael Francis LaNore; her siblings, Lynda Smyth of Willow Grove, Pennsylvania, Donald Gatenby of Willow Grove, Pennsylvania, and Janet Das (Johann) of Horsham, Pennsylvania.
Barbara was preceded in death by her brother, Robert Gatenby, who passed away just one month earlier. She was the beloved daughter of the late George William Gatenby and Emily Gatenby (née Kerr).
Barbara was a proud graduate of Upper Dublin High School, Class of 1976, and earned her Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from Ursinus College in 1979, graduating cum laude. Her professional career began at Sperry Univac, where she worked in Parsippany, New Jersey, for four years before joining Bell Atlantic (later Verizon). She later relocated to Laurel, Maryland, continuing her career with Verizon until her retirement.
Barbara had a passion for quilting and sewing and enjoyed traveling throughout England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, and across the United States. She loved music, especially Ed Sheeran, John Mayer, Los Lonely Boys, and Train and also found joy in camping and bowling with family and friends.
Barbara will be remembered for her warmth, humor, and the love she shared with everyone who knew her.
