She was born on September 21, 1934 to Mary Genevie and Raymond Sprankle, in Hagerstown, Maryland just 58 minutes before her twin sister, Barbara. She also had two brothers, Larry Sprankle and the late William Sprankle.
Beverly met her future husband and love of her life, Angus (Dean) Smith, at Starland Skating Rink in Hagerstown where they became very good at skate dancing. They married in January of 1955 and moved to Dundalk, Maryland to begin their life together. They had three children, and were married for 66 years before his passing.
After moving to Dundalk, she worked as a bank teller at Provident Bank until they started their family. She spent numerous years attending to the needs of their children, being an active participant in their school field trips, scout troops and majorette groups. Once the kids were grown, she worked at Dundalk Community College in the Admissions Office until she retired in 1996.
In her spare time, Bev loved to sew and she excelled at it, making clothing for her children, suits for her husband, majorette uniforms and later, her daughter’s wedding gown. She also enjoyed spending time at The North Point Yacht Club where she held the position of secretary of the ladies auxiliary for many years. She enjoyed attending parties there, going boating, waterskiing and picnicking with friends and family. Bowling was also a favorite activity. She bowled on two leagues and served as their secretary for many years until she was in her 70s.
She loved vacationing with Dean and the kids to places like Ocean City, Cape May and Disney World. She also traveled with her twin sister to the annual Twins Days Festival in Twinsburg, Ohio. They cherished their time together and made friends with other sets of twins from all over the country. They attended the festival for 20 years, beginning in 1998. Once Beverly retired, she and Dean took numerous trips to destinations including The Virgin Islands, Cape Cod and Nova Scotia, to name a few.
Beverly had strong Christian values. She attended The Church of God at Dundalk where she held the position of secretary for 14 years. She will be remembered for her kindness, compassion and respect for others. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, godmother and friend who will be greatly missed.
Beverly was preceded in death by her husband, Angus Smith. She is survived by her children, Steven Smith (wife Sharon), Barbara Smith (husband Jonathan) and Gregory Smith (wife Karen); eight grandchildren, Michelle, Jeff, Kristin, Angie, Christina, Andrea, Fennec and Mackenzie; and six great grandchildren, Zachary, Jacob, Edith, Phineas, Phoebe and Delaney.
