Bradley Tyler Johnson Mettee III, of Ellicott City, Maryland, passed away peacefully on September 28, 2026, at Gilchrist Hospice in Columbia, very close to the property where he lived as a teenager. He was 91 years old.
Brad was born in Baltimore, Maryland, on September 4, 1935, to the late Renate and Bradley T.J. Mettee Jr. He was a member of the first graduating class of Howard High School in Ellicott City in 1953 and later earned a Bachelors degree from the University of Maryland. He proudly served his country in the United States Army and Army Reserves.
Bradley spent 35 years working for Westinghouse before retiring in 1995. His work took him to many foreign countries. He was a man who could fix just about anything and took great pride in his skills as a handyman and woodworker. He enjoyed keeping busy with projects, traveling, playing bridge, and following his favorite sports. He was a devoted fan of the Baltimore Ravens and Baltimore Orioles and rarely missed a game on television. He also enjoyed NASCAR and could always be counted on to follow the races.
Bradley was married first to Shirley Mettee (née Holmes), who preceded him in death. Later in life, he found love again with June Cobb Mettee (née Lilly), whom he married in 2005 and with whom he shared many happy years.
He was a devoted father to Bradley T.J. Mettee IV (Gail Dobson), Sharon Owen (John), Jill Kramer (Tim), and Jodi Cobb (Judith Fulmer). He is also survived by his siblings, Rev. J. Howard Mettee (Pat) and Dorothy Miciche (Tom); his grandchildren, Sean Owen (Gaby Dunn), Rhiannon Owen, Sarah Laing (Brian), and Seth Kramer; and his great-grandchildren, Penny and Henry Laing.
Bradley will be remembered as a hardworking, capable, and caring man who loved his family, enjoyed life's simple pleasures, and was always ready to lend a hand or tackle a project. His curiosity, determination, and love of family will remain a cherished part of the memories he leaves behind.
He will be deeply missed by his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family, and friends.
Family and friends are invited to gather at Gary L Kaufman Funeral Home at Meadowridge Memorial Park, Inc. 7250 Washington Blvd., Elkridge, MD 21075 (Exit 6 South off Route 100) on Friday, October 2, 2026 fromm 1:00 to 3:00pm at which time a Celebration of Life Service will begin. Interment Woodlawn Cemetery will be private.
