

Clifford Ernest Hawley of Elkridge Maryland passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on September 28th, 2023, at the age of 100. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years Sybil L. Hawley (Tate) and one son David N. Hawley and granddaughter Robin M. Beyak, sister Marie and four brothers: Marvin, Dallas, William, and James. His parents, Nora and Roy passed away many years ago.
Clifford left behind two sons, Bruce (Jean Connelly) Hawley, Phillip (Kimberly) Hawley and one daughter Judy (Peter) Beyak, one daughter-in-law Sara Hawley and one sister Carol Sue Hawley. Clifford, also known as Granddad, left behind eight grandchildren: Matthew Long, Kathy Kraft, Stacey Folkemer, William Keith Hawley, Sean Hawley, Clifford J. Hawley, Rebecca Hawley, and Jack Hawley, as well as six great grandchildren, Kira Beyak, Briana Hawley, Taylor Kraft, Xander Kraft, Maggie Folkemer, and Archie Long.
Clifford was born in Lester, WV on July 8, 1923. He graduated from Trapp Hill High School in Lester in 1943 and immediately enlisted in the US Army and served as a medic during World War 2. Clifford married Sybil Hawley of Glen White WV in 1947 before deployment to Korea in 1950 where he was awarded the Bronze Star with valor and two Purple Hearts.
After a 20-year career in the Army, Clifford retired as Sergent First Class and moved to Jessup, MD. He worked as a dispatcher for a trucking company, insurance salesman and finally as a manager for Continental Trailways in Baltimore, MD. Clifford retired in 1988 and enjoyed time with his wife, children, and grandchildren, as well as driving to Florida and West Virginia. Driving cars and his riding lawn mower, plus bowling were his hobbies. He enjoyed these activities until he was into his 90’s,
Family and friends are invited to gather at Gary L. Kaufman Funeral Home at Meadowridge Memorial Park, Inc. 7250 Washington Blvd., Elkridge, MD 21075 (Exit 6 South off Route 100) on Saturday, October 7, 2023 for a time of visitation from 10:00 – 11:30AM, followed by a short service. Clifford will be laid to rest next to his wife Sybil.
