His family moved to Youngstown, Ohio in the latter part of the depression where his father found work at Youngstown Sheet and Tube Steel Mill.
Daryl had long career in the US Air Force Security Service. During one of his deployments home, he met MaryAnn Varescak. After a brief courtship, they were married in September of 1957. With the exception of a tour in South Vietnam, they traveled the world. Assignments took them to Germany, England, Texas, Virginia, Okinawa and finally to Maryland. Daryl was stationed at NSA and retired in 1979.
His retirement didn’t slow him down. He went on to receive a Bachelor’s and a Masters. His favorite job was at the Naval Academy. He also worked in the prison system helping young men study for the GED. NSA offered him a position he couldn’t refuse so he went back to work as a civilian. After a second retirement, he went back to work with the prisoners.
When Daryl finally retired, he and his wife became snowbirds in Winterhaven, Florida. MaryAnn passed into the next life in 2017.
Daryl loved to help people and proceeded to become a musical therapist at the Chesapeake Hospice Center. He would play his harmonica for hours. Daryl was also active in the singing group at the Pascal Center in Glen Burnie. Every now and then, they would give him a solo and he would play “God Bless America”.
Daryl went to join MaryAnn on April 9, 2021. He will be greatly missed. He leaves behind Deborah Dwyer, Daryl J, Karen Cobb and her husband James, Jr. and Gregory; his grandchildren, Eric, Trey, Meghan, Alissa, Caty, Lauren and her husband Colby, Brendan and Haley; his great grandchildren, Henry and Jaedyn.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, April 23, 2021 at Christ the King Catholic Church, 7436 B & A Boulevard, Glen Burnie, MD 21060 at 6:00 pm.
