Dolores C. Hyman

Dolores C. Hyman (“Bobbie”) was born on December 10, 1935 to Clifford Johnson and Viola Fairclough in Ancon, Panama Canal Zone.

She was an intelligent and dedicated student who had a genuine love of learning. Upon graduation, she met and married Alexander E. Hyman, an American U.S. Army serviceman, and relocated to Portsmouth, Virginia. She later moved to Washington, D.C., where she accepted an administrative position with the D.C. Board of Education. Driven by her passion for education, she continued her studies at D.C. Teachers College (University of the District of Columbia),where she earned her degree. She went on to serve as a kindergarten teacher at Marie Reed Community Learning Center School, where she devoted many years to educating and nurturing young children until her retirement in June 2005.

She immersed herself in God’s Word and lived the Word as well. She loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and was a lifelong Catholic who also attended Millennium Bible Fellowship, where her son-in-love served as Pastor. She believed deeply in giving back and instilled that spirit of service and generosity in her children and grandchildren. She volunteered at Shepherd’s Table in Silver Spring and at Capitol Heights Elementary, always finding ways to serve and make a difference in the lives of others. She enjoyed reading, watching Jeopardy! , spending time with family, walking for exercise, and taking walks with her furry friend, Panda.

As a mother, she loved with a heart that seemed to have no limits. Her love could be felt in the big moments of life, but perhaps even more in the little ones—the words of encouragement, the laughter, the concern in her voice, the sacrifices no one saw, and the countless ways she made sure the people she loved knew they mattered.  

As a friend, she was a gift. She was someone you could laugh with, talk with, lean on, and simply be yourself around. Her friendship brought comfort, joy, understanding, and memories that will forever be held close.  

Her passing leaves an emptiness that words cannot fully express. Yet even in our sorrow, we can be grateful for the love she gave, and the lives she touched.  

She leaves behind to mourn: her 5 children, Judy, Kay (Nurney Sr.), Linda, Alexander Jr. (Myrtis), and Keith (Kimberly), four grandchildren, Kristen, Nurney II., Keith Jr., Jessica Ruiz (Enrique), and one great grandchild, Esteban (Jessica), cousins Maritza and Vivian who affectionately called her mommy (Alric Fischle (Uncle Bobby), Desiree, Alrich Jr. (Lucy Fischle), Katarina and Renny (Rosanna), Georgianna Johnson and a host of family and friends.
