OBITUARY
Elizabeth " Angel" Angela McGrath
January 7, 1978 – January 9, 2021
Ms. Elizabeth Angela “Angel” McGrath, a mother, a daughter and sister, died unexpectedly over the weekend due to a sudden pulmonary embolism. COVID-19 was not a factor. Angel worked at Bonnie Branch Middle School, primarily this year with 6th and 7th grade students, both in small groups and co-teaching in virtual classrooms. Angel was a beloved member of the school and church community of Saint Augustine and made a tremendous impact on everyone she met. Ms. McGrath always saw the best in her students, was a trusted colleague, and close friend to many. Her involvement in the Drama Learning Center productions and school musicals are also treasured memories. Angel always seemed to know just what to say to make someone smile or feel better.
Family and friends are invited to gather at the Gary L. Kaufman Funeral Home at Meadowridge Memorial Park, Inc., 7250 Washington Boulevard, Elkridge, MD 21075 ( exit6 south off Rt. 100) on Saturday, January 16, 2021 from 3 :00 to 5:00 pm and 7:00 to 9:00 pm. I was blessed not only to call Angel a co-worker, but also a friend. When Angel came to Bonnie Branch she was bubbly and enthusiastic to share her wonderful self with us all. As time went by our friendship grew. She graciously allowed me to work with Janet as I was going through my Master's program to become a Reading Specialist. She was our official Outdoor Education DJ. She would make the CDs for all of the Outdoor Education dances, when I was 6th grade Team Leader, and even slipped me a few CDs of my favorite songs. She was even so gracious as to be the DJ for my mother's 80th surprise birthday party. I had opportunities to go to Angel's house in Laurel for dinners and even catered a house warming for her when she first moved to Elkridge. For many summers we had a standing lunch date to occur around the end of summer school. Angel would be my sounding board during my relationships, and would give me sage advice. My moments with Angel will forever live in my heart. Rest easy my friend. Love Tanya Johnson Martin (TJ)

Dearest Janet, and Angel’s parents and family,
We are so sorry to hear of Angel’s passing. Our family has many fond memories of Angel and Janet. Janet befriended my son at a very tough time and that is what initially brought Angel into our world but eventually we not only got to know her as a parent of our child’s friend but also as a wonderful, kind, thoughtful, and sincere educator. When my oldest was moving into middle school i was nervous and Angel told me not to worry as she would personally check on him, and she did. She was his confidant, his cheerleader, and his friend. I appreciate everything she did for us. And Janet, please know you are jn our thoughts and prayers. For your friendship to our son i always loved you for that. Keep that kind spirit. The world needs it.

Miss Elizabeth Angela McGrath was the most caring, loving, and gracious person I have ever met. One moment that stands out to me is from this year. During the summer and the height of the pandemic and the marches against police brutality Angel knew that I was having a very hard time with depression and general apathy. She invited me over to play with the new puppies that she was fostering. That moment changed my life. Seeing her was wonderful and receiving one of her hugs, but it also convinced me that I needed a dog for my mental health. So I now have a beautiful bulldog named Dottie with a collar gifted from Angel. I hope she knows that her act of kindness in my moment of despair literally saved my life.
You will be missed but your spirit of compassion lives on in the hearts of those blessed souls that you touched.
Rest in Peace my beautiful butterfly.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Janet and family, as well as, the BBMS family. My memories are filled with Angel’s smile, warmth and love of middle schoolers. Angel’s enthusiasm was extended each year to working with many summer school students. Love to all who had the privilege of Angel’s love. Nan Brown, former assistant principal at BBMS

Pulling into the driveway off Katama Ave, after pulling off the ferry, seeing my summer friend on her deck calling my name-
We ran to each other and hugged, and here began a summer of beach, bike rides, games. Oh the fun we had. Summer friends are special- they form your childhood- and for me I had Angel - she is and has been a light in my
Life- her smile- her laugh- I will never forget her, this is one painful loss- rip my dear summer sister

Angel was one of those beautiful souls who was forever kind, endearing, energetic, loving and always witty. She had a genuine heart and it showed with every responsibility she took on.... whether it was with DLC, CHN, her students or the staff at BBMS, friends, or most of all, her sweet daughter Janet, her loving parents and the rest of her family.
While the road ahead will be a bit difficult, Angel’s blessings and watchful heart will surely be with her daughter and family to help see them through.
Memories of her humor and natural selflessness will never be forgotten. She is an icon!💜
Our love and condolences,
The OByrne Family

Angel always had a smile and was always so uplifting. I remembered her in Holy Cross as such a kind spirited young girl. And knowing her as an adult made me honored to have her as a friend. Her love lives through every person she’s met and I will cherish the very fact that I was touched by an Angel... I love and miss you baby girl. You’ve been casted as the leading role now. To sit at His right hand and help keep watch over loved ones. Fly high Angel!

I am so grateful for the years that I got to spend with Angel at Bonnie Branch Middle School. Her love of life and her dedication to her students was inspiring.
For many years, she and I shared morning parking lot duty, which can be an unpleasant job. But with her as my partner, we had fun and managed to laugh a lot, even in rain and snow.. She deserves all the credit for that. I already miss her dearly.

As a volunteer foster with Canine Humane Network, Angel brought us our beloved rescue dog, Lucky (formerly “Loki”), this past May. We wanted a dog for our family so badly, but at time, my four year old son was petrified of dogs. Angel was patient and understanding and just knew that our son and Lucky would connect. Angel guided us through the first few weeks with Lucky, always making herself available to answer even the most silly of my questions! I am forever grateful. We will keep Janet and Angel’s other family members in our thoughts and prayers. We are so very sorry for this loss.

Angel blessed us with her amazing spirit and kindness. She brought so much love to CHN; to the volunteers and the puppies that she helped to rescue and re-home. There are few people as special as she was. She will be forever in my thoughts and prayers.

I remember Angel bringing Janet to work with her in the mornings until Janet was picked up for day care. It was fun to watch the two hang out together. Janet, as long as you remember, your mom will always live within you.
