

On September 21, 2021, George William Eikenberg, age 94, of Elkridge passed away; George was born September 2, 1927; Beloved husband of the late Anna Rosalie Eikenberg (nee Johnson); Loving father of Bill Eikenberg (Mary Ann), Gary Eikenberg (Pat), John Eikenberg, Christine Cannon (Rick), Rick Eikenberg (Kristen), and Dave Eikenberg (Jackie); Cherished grandfather of 13 and survived by numerous great-grandchildren; Dear brother of Therese Schiefer, Doris Argo, Rosemarie Wittig, Joe Eikenberg and Tom Eikenberg; Dear brother-in-law of Marjorie Schoolcraft and Joyce Spence; He was predeceased by his parents, William and Marie Eikenberg; and by his brothers, Fred, Danny, William, and Francis Eikenberg.
George had a love for sports especially baseball. He attended Mount Saint Joseph High School, where he played baseball, basketball and soccer as a Gael. He was inducted into the Mount Saint Joseph Sports Hall of Fame in 1986. He attended Johns Hopkins University until he was drafted into the US Army where he served at the conclusion of WWII.
When George returned from the service, his passion for baseball resulted in a contract to play for the minor league baseball team of the Boston Braves. He later met and married the love of his life, Rosalie Johnson, in 1952. Rosalie passed away from ALS on Sept 10th of 2001.
George was a loyal fan of the Baltimore Orioles – through good times and bad. He enjoyed coaching several baseball teams, including the Catholic and Elkridge Youth Organizations. George always needed to be active. He enjoyed jogging in the neighborhood and running many races and marathons. George was a member of the Road Runner Club where he organized and participated in many charitable races throughout the years.
George and Rosalie were very active members in the church and community where they organized and supported many charitable causes and events. He was a lecturer and Eucharistic Minister at Saint Augustine Church and member as well as President of the Parish Council.
George was a past Grand Knight of the Madonna Council of the Knights of Columbus and became an Honorary Member of the Order. He was very active in the Howard County Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW); serving as Trustee, Jr. Commander, Sr. Commander, and Commander of Post #8097.
George and Rosalie, along with their two children, opened their home and family to foster 42 children from 1961 to 1982. Four of these children were adopted. Their dedication and contributions were acknowledged by being awarded Maryland State Council Family of the Year and the First Runner-Up of the Knights of Columbus’ International Family of the Year Program in 1995.
George will be missed, but his memory will live on through those he touched with his dedication and generosity.

Kaufman Funeral Home at Meadowridge Memorial Park, Inc. 7250 Washington Blvd., Elkridge, Maryland 21075 on Sunday, September 26, 2021 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, September 27, 2021, 10:00AM, St. Augustine Catholic Church, 5976 Old Washington Road, Elkridge, MD 21075. Interment Meadowridge Memorial Park.
