George Everett Reed

George was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Frederick and Marie Reed; his brother, Frederick A. Reed Jr.; and his treasured daughter, Virginia "Ginger" Reed Flinn, whose loss he carried with him always.

He is survived by his loving daughters, Danielle Reed McMurray and her husband, Carter, and Angela Reed Woolverton and her husband, Michael. He was a proud and devoted PopPop to Samuel, Luke, and Cassie Woolverton; Megan and Kellie Flinn; and Cara and Natalie McMurray. Being a grandfather was the greatest joy of his life, and there was nothing he loved more than spending time with his grandchildren. He is also survived by his son-in-law, Kevin Flinn, several dearly loved nieces and nephews, and his siblings: Charles Reed; Robert Reed and his wife, Linda; Cathey Reed Wright; and Susan Reed Copenhaver and her husband, Bob.

A 1963 graduate of Bladensburg High School in Bladensburg, Maryland, George began his career at the National Security Agency at just 18 years old, where he faithfully served until his retirement. During his distinguished career, he received several awards recognizing his contributions during Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm. Following retirement, he continued serving his community by working and volunteering at the Eastern West Virginia Regional Airport.

George embraced life with enthusiasm and found happiness in the simple things. He loved spending time at the beach and on the Chesapeake Bay, especially when crabbing. Whether he was bowling, playing basketball or baseball, coaching young athletes, or racing RC boats, he brought energy and enthusiasm to everything he did. He was known for his singing voice and his ability to light up a dance floor, and his love of music was evident in the nearly 2,000 CDs he proudly collected over the years.

In 2024, George moved to Tennessee, where he quickly embraced southern life and was affectionately known as a true southern gentleman. He enjoyed making new friends, sharing stories, and, in recent years, could often be found happily watching his favorite television series, Yellowstone.

George's greatest legacy is the love he gave so freely to his family. He was a devoted father, a proud PopPop, a caring brother, uncle, and friend whose kindness, laughter, and generous spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Though his presence will be profoundly missed, his memory will continue to live on through the countless lives he touched and the family he loved so completely.

Kaufman Funeral Home at Meadowridge Memorial Park, Inc. 7250 Washington Blvd., Elkridge, Maryland 21075 (Exit 6 South Off Route 1) on Saturday, August 22, 2026 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at which time a Celebration of Life Service will begin.
