Born January 31, 1943, in Savage, Maryland, to Charles and Avilda Specht, Glenda developed a lifelong love of the outdoors from her father, a forest ranger. She grew up in the First Baptist Church of Savage, where she committed her life to Jesus Christ.
She met Harold Lewis Shaffer while working in her father’s general store. They married on March 3, 1962, and raised two sons. Glenda’s greatest joy was being a wife and mother. A devoted homemaker, she delighted in decorating, cooking, oil painting, and especially studying the Bible.
The family lived for a time on a ranch in Divide, Colorado, before returning to Maryland. Following Harold’s death in 2014, Glenda moved to Urbana to live with her son Craig and his family.
She is survived by her sons, Todd and Melissa Crook Shaffer, and their children, McKenna, Greyson, and Sawyer; and Craig and Melissa Saylor Shaffer and their children, Carter, Keirra, and Alena Collins (Gavin); and her brother Lanny and his wife Linda.
She was predeceased by her husband Harold, her parents, and her grandson Tristan Shaffer.
Glenda holds a special place in our hearts and will be deeply missed. We rejoice that she is now in the presence of her Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.
