We sadly announce the passing of James "Jim" Robert Erickson, of Phoenix, MD, who peacefully left us on January 9, 2024 at the age of 59.
He was born on June 7, 1964 in Houghton, MI, the son of the late John and Marion (Stefani) Erickson. He graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School with the Class of 1982. He attended The College of William and Mary, receiving his Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting in 1986, and further continued his education to earn a Master of Business Degree in Health Care from Johns Hopkins University in 2000.
He had a distinguished career at Johns Hopkins University. At the start of his path in academia, Jim was hired as a Senior Cost Analyst in 1987. With over 36 years as a dedicated professional, he had advanced to Senior Associate Dean and Executive Director of Financial Affairs for the School of Medicine.
Jim’s life revolved around his family and friends. He loved cooking, fishing, playing cribbage, attending live music events, and spending time at Indian Lake in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. A loving father he was always present to provide guidance and support.
Survived by the mother of his children, Kimberly Erickson, and their children Tyler Rose Erickson (Jonathan Longworth) of Durham, NC and Madison Erickson of Richmond, VA; Sisters, Kim Maki of Houghton, MI, Beth Erickson (Gary Ziegler) of McFarland, WI; Brother, John (Nancy) Erickson of Ashburn, VA; Nieces, Jessica (Mike) Guoin, Jennifer (Tony) Sleeman, Elise (Vico) Melo, Amanda Erickson (Joseph Hogan), Danya Sasada, Samantha (Aaron) Kane; Nephews, Jeffrey (Ashley) Maki, Robert Erickson; great nieces and nephews Jaiden, Riah Rose, Easton, Liam, Calem, Karma, Piper, Mason, Nico, Bronsyn, and Aurora; his companion Stephanie Donner and her son Nick (Emily) Donner; lifelong friend, Tim (Nancy) Harmon, and many dear friends and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his father, John Ronald Erickson Sr., mother, Marion Rose (Stefani) Erickson, brother-in-law, Ken Maki, and nephew, Danny Ranck.
Visitation will be held Sunday, January 14, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Gary L. Kaufman Funeral Home in Elkridge, MD. A service will be held at 12:00 p.m. with Deacon Doug Kendzierski to officiate. In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial donations to the American Diabetes Association or any other charity of your choice.
