

James Reece Turner, born on November 3, 1935, in North Carolina, passed away peacefully on July 7, 2025, at the age of 89. He was the beloved son of the late James Turner and Elizabeth Turner (née Rathburn).
James is survived by his devoted significant other, Jackie Bowman; his daughters, Rebecca Bohanon Turner and Vanessa Phelps; and his cherished grandchildren: James Turner and his wife Kristen, Josh Phelps and his wife Megan, and Catie Parker. He was also a proud great-grandfather to Tayden, Nikko, and Journey.
He is also survived by his brother, Rick Turner; and by his nieces, Theresa Dolata and her husband Eric, and Sharon Thomison and her husband John.
James was preceded in death by his children, Donald Turner, Tammie Parker, and Billy Turner; his granddaughter, Holly Atkins; and his siblings, Frank Turner and Connie Sheridan.
Throughout his life, James enjoyed a variety of hobbies and interests that brought him great joy. He was a devoted fan of the Washington Redskins and the Baltimore Orioles. He loved reading books and was an avid coin collector. James treasured his visits to Ocean City, Maryland, and the Outer Banks of North Carolina, where he also enjoyed attending family reunions.
Known for his delicious homemade cornbread, he had a particular fondness for popcorn, yellow cake, and chocolate pie. He often enjoyed meals at Cracker Barrel, a favorite spot. James was also a fan of action movies and westerns and took great pride in maintaining his immaculate lawn.
James will be remembered for his quiet strength, his deep love for family, and the joy he found in life’s simple moments.
