

John was a devoted brother to Barbara Lynn Zaugg and her husband Denny, and Patti Mergenthaler and her husband Scott. He was a proud uncle to Stephanie Diamond (Dave), Christopher Zaugg, Annette Travis (Jim), Matthew Mergenthaler (Jenniffer), Kristin Hartman (Nicholas), and the late Pamela Donnelly (Steve), and was also cherished by 14 great nieces and nephews who brought him much joy.
John had an extraordinary gift for bringing joy to those around him with his quick wit and infectious laughter. His great sense of humor brightened everyone’s days, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of all who knew him. John’s humor was a reflection of his kind spirit and zest for life, and it will be dearly missed by everyone who had the pleasure of sharing in his laughter.
A man of deep faith, John was known for his religious devotion to the Roman Catholic Church and lived his life with kindness and integrity. He had a passion for learning and was a history enthusiast, particularly with an interest in Civil War history.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew him for his gentle spirit, his generous heart, and his unwavering commitment to family and Roman Catholic faith.
Family and friends are invited to gather at the National Shrine of St. Alphonsus Liguori, 114 W. Saratoga Street, Baltimore, MD 21201 on March 21, 2025 from 10:00 AM- 11:00 AM after, at which time a Traditional Latin Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment at Meadowridge Memorial Park Elkridge, Maryland.
